The Constitution Drop to 1-1 with Loss in Philadelphia

April 23rd, 2012

April 21st, Philadelphia, PA.  The Connecticut Constitution hit the road again on Saturday, this time headed for the City of Brotherly Love to line up against the Philadelphia Spinners. Both teams were coming off opening day wins and were looking to continue this trend in week two.

As the teams warmed up, fans started arriving and the music blared, setting the tone for a great night of Ultimate. The Constitution started on offense, but the home fans didn’t have to wait long to get into the game as the Spinners defense converted on a turnover to start the game with a break. The Connecticut offense was able to convert on their next opportunity and the Constitution were on the board. The first quarter saw great defensive pressure by both teams, which kept the score to just 4-3 at the end of 12 minutes, Spinners on top.

The second quarter featured much of the same energy and defensive pressure of the first, but with slightly more composure from each team. The offenses on both teams seemed to have gotten a better feel for the swirling winds of Franklin Field, making downfield passes a bit more precise. As the quarter closed out, the Spinners were able to capitalize on Constitution miscues and extend their lead to 9-7.

Feetch “Stephen” Glauser, #42, Snatches a Break for the Constitution

Coming out of halftime, the Constitution knew they needed to step up and execute. The offense received to start and promptly put it in for the score, cutting the lead to 9-8. The defense looked strong throughout the game, but really stepped up in the third quarter, forcing many turns by the Philadelphia offense. Unfortunately, the breaks weren’t coming and the Constitution headed into the final quarter down 14-12.

The fourth quarter began, and neither team backed down. Both teams scored on their first possession to start the quarter and the Constitution were able to pull it to 16-15, but that was as close as it would be. The Philadelphia team showed great chemistry on offense, consistently hitting the open receiver, despite close bids by Connecticut defenders. With time expiring, the Spinners scored one last defensive goal, leaving the final score Spinners 22, Constitution 16.

Fans Make the Trip

Thank you to all our fans who made the trip to Philadelphia!

The Constitution had many standout plays during the game, but the defensive pressure and blocks from Garrett Santi were noteworthy on the defensive side of the disc. On the offensive side, John Korber scored 6 goals, and Rafe Steinhauer scored 2 goals while also adding 3 assists.

The Constitution play next on May 5th at 1pm, the home opener at Arute Field in New Britain, CT. It will be rematch of these two teams, with the Spinners making the trip to the northeast.

Amazing journey

January 6th, 2012

Many of you have known ultimate for a long time. Some of us, not so long. What I have learned in a very short time is that there is a dedication to this sport unlike most others. Players love the sport; some love it in its primary form and some recognize that variation is not a detriment, and in fact, variation is a compliment to the original ‘art’ of ultimate. As an owner of the Connecticut Constitution, we appreciate all of the ultimate community. Without that community, without that passion, this sport would not be where it is today. ..and where it is today is begging to get to another level. Professional ultimate is born because of its many players and personalities that have come before. Will we be the perfect outgrowth for everyone? Probably not. But, then again, maybe it’ll be pretty close. The only way to decide is to check this new sport out. Don’t decide yet, decide after you have come out and kicked the tires and seen a game or two played. There is really great talent in this sport and as an owner, I hope to present some of this talent to our fans in an exciting and entertaining event. I am excited about ultimate and I am excited about creating something that the purist can enjoy right along side of the grammar school kid and his dad that have never seen such an awesome and energetic game. As every business person knows, you can’t know everything about everything and I am no different. Rest assured though, I am surrounding myself with people with tons of ultimate knowledge. The result of our synergies will appear on the field on April 14, 2012. It will be amazing. Bryan Ricci, CEO, Connecticut Constitution
